1. Storage Capacity – Bigger Bags, More Stuff
When you think about luggage, you probably first wonder how many of your belongings and clothing you can fit into certain bags for travel. Luggage is all about storage capacity, and it should be one of the first considerations you make when purchasing a new piece of luggage.
By nature, luggage attached to scooters will be a bit smaller than normal bags. Consider how much storage you’ll need when traveling with a luggage scooter. Most people use them for quick trips, so we considered bags with an average storage capacity of around 35-40 liter, which is just enough for a 2-3 day trip. Of course, the bigger the bag, the more you’ll need to consider cabin size and overhead compartment capabilities. Be sure your bags will fit!
2. Materials – Durable Materials Give Longer Life
It’s no question that luggage gets beaten and scraped, especially when handled by airport and airline employees. Luggage scooters also have more of a chance of getting bumped around, so you’ll want to make sure you purchase a model that can take a hit.
The average luggage scooter is made from polycarbonate (PC) on the exterior, which is a durable plastic that can stand up to a variety of situations. Consider luggage that is made of PC with at least aluminum frames.
3. Weight – Lighter Suitcases Are Easier to Transport
No one wants to carry a heavier suitcase around than necessary, even if it is on wheels. We scored lighter luggage more favorably and found that the best luggage scooters weighed in right around 12 pounds.
Of course, if you want to carry more stuff with you, you’ll need to purchase a larger bag, which ends up weighing more overall. Decide what your preference is when it comes to storage capacity vs. weight and adjust your expectations accordingly.
4. Warranty – Longer Warranties Are Better Overall
Warranties for luggage scooters can vary widely. Some only provide a 30-day return policy while others provide warranties up to three years. It may seem obvious but purchasing a luggage scooter with a longer warranty is better overall for you. Most luggage scooter warranties only cover necessary repairs and parts instead of complete replacement. Check the fine print so you know just what you’re getting with your warranty.
